New Year, New Growth
I’ve been loving all of the New Year’s posts from fellow bloggers reminiscing over the previous year and setting new goals for this year. I enjoy learning what others are looking forward to and they have even inspired some goals of my own.
Some of my highlights in 2018 all involved a good amount of travel to:
Paris, my home away from home. I trained our French sales teams (en français, bien sur), which was a huge accomplishment for me in my career.
Corsica, Barcelona, & Ibiza. I always enjoy visiting family in Corsica and was thrilled to check Barcelona off my bucket list and IBIZA. I never thought I’d say “I’ve been to Ibiza”! This was a trip of a lifetime filled with sunny skies, beaches, amazing food, and tons of dancing!
Minneapolis, a real winter wonderland. I conquered a new goal of presenting in our keynote at a customer event. It was also magical being surrounded by snow that close to Christmas.
I accomplished some great things career-wise and personally, but the year also presented itself with challenges - some of them so exhausting physically & mentally. I think a relaxing vacation to Tahiti might be in order! While I’m proud of how we handled it alll, I’m really looking forward to turning the page to the new year.
Let this be the year for growth. We’re always growing, of course, but 2018 built a solid foundation in specific areas that I want to focus on. And there’s no better way to hold yourself accountable than to write down your New Year’s resolutions for the world to see 😂.
Grow my relationships
It may sound cliché, but as we get older life presents us with seemingly impossible challenges. We just can’t do it all alone. I’m sure some of you can relate. Plus, helping those you love, even while hard, is so worth it in the end to see them smile and happy. Our families don’t live near us, so we need to put in more effort to spend time with them, even if it’s on the phone. And our friends are part of our family, today and in our future, so nurturing our close friendships feels more important now than ever.
I also spend so many hours of my day at the office so my colleagues have become my work family. They inspire incredible ideas and are such great team players. We couldn’t do our jobs without each other, especially the big projects coming up over the next few months. Growing my relationships with them will not only help us succeed but also create a lasting bond.
Grow my passions and my blog
While I enjoy my day job, I need balance to perform my best. That’s why I took up blogging, because it brings together my passions for marketing, fashion, travel, and photography. I’ve oftentimes avoided revealing to others that I have a blog. Being an influencer or a blogger is still not easy to explain… and sadly many people make fun. However, life is short and there’s nothing worse than living with regret. Pursuing passions that make you feel alive and inspire others are so worth it. It’s evident that people value real opinions and advice that bloggers bring to the table, moving companies to shift their marketing dollars towards influencer marketing. Sure, you undoubtedly come across the occasional sponsored post. If you’re like me, I only produce content for items or experiences that are aligned to my values and that I would truly recommend to my closest of friends, not just for any old thing! I pursue blogging because I love the creativity that goes into producing empowering content for like-minded individuals. It gives me a platform to express myself and to learn from you. So while some may not understand it, it’s ok. I do it for myself and do it for those who appreciate and can find value in it. This year, I work to grow my blog. I’ll attend more blogging events, network & partner with other bloggers and brands so we can further our message, and produce more content to inspire and empower women. And of course, I want to engage more with you. If you’ve read this far, thank you! I want to provide more helpful and meaningful content, so your support, your comments, likes, follows, and feedback are truly motivating and mean so much to me. <3
Grow a healthier lifestyle
Both our families have experienced health issues. After taking a good look at ourselves, we realized one of the best ways to help them is to lead by example. I’ve always been a runner but lately it’s been sporadic. My first goal is to get back to a morning running routine. Next is to eat well. We recently watched two documentaries on Netflix, What the Health and Forks Over Knives, both which focus on a plant-based diet. We knew that the consumption of animals severely impacts the environment, but we didn’t realize was how badly it impacts our bodies too! Now, I warn you, the documentaries are not for the faint of heart. Some elements may also be a bit exaggerated (what movie isn’t), but in the end, it motivated us to try a healthier lifestyle and pursue a plant-based diet indefinitely. We’re on Day 4 of the diet and perhaps it’s too soon and my mind is playing tricks on me, but I’m feeling less lethargic in the mornings. I can’t wait to see how I feel in the days, weeks, months to come!
Are you on a plant-based diet? I would love to hear your reasons and if you have any great recipes to share. We made a coconut curry sweet potato noodle dish last night and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Would you like me to post about my journey and recipes we like? Comment below. And let me know what your new year’s resolutions are too!
